Feminism’s comprised of three historical movements, the age of the internet could signify a fourth
First wave feminism comprised of the women suffrage movements promoting voting rights for women. The second wave of feminism became a strong movement during the 1960’s cultural revolution and campaigned for legal and social quality for women. Third wave feminism was a reaction to, or continuation of, the movement of the 60’s and has grow in popularity and had a slow and steady effect on policy making since the 1990’s. With the onset of a communicative revolution surrounding the internet, social movements dealing with feminism and discrimination are receiving more attention as the means of dispersing opinion has changed. The internet is marking the death of mainstream media, communication is changing and as a result social issues that matter to the most people will receive the recognition they deserve, while the corporate interests of traditional news media will become of less and less importance.
