What is driving inequality in the UK?

The UK has undergone a dramatic rise in the level of inequality in the last four decades, and soaring levels of inequality are now thought to be the worst in the Europe, according to a study by an Oxford University professor, Danny Dorling. Similarly a report from the UK National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) found large disparities between generations, with those born in the 1980s the first post-war generation to have lower incomes during early adulthood than the previous generation. What is causing the growing level of inequality in the United Kingdom? What economic factors are making this country and increasingly unequal society? blogs.lse.ac.uk/brexit/2019/10/15/the-curve-of-inequality-and-the-brexit-way independent.co.uk/voices/income-wealth-inequality-austerity-brexit-economy-uk-a9164456.html theguardian.com/society/2019/nov/19/rage-and-responsibility-nine-months-of-reporting-homeless-deaths-why-isnt-it-election-priority

Student loan crisis

The UK's failed privatised student loans program, with ever escalating tuition fees and a spiralling student debt crisis, is leaving coming generations with unrealistic levels of student debt that is increasing poverty, stress, and numerous other issues, while burdening the economy. Student loans are a cost that affluent parents are able to easily absorb on behalf of their children, but a cost that students from lower income families need to take out high interest loans to afford, loans that cannot be written off by bankruptcy or any usual financial norm. The UK student loan crisis is second only to the dizzying US student debt crisis, however in the UK the average student loan debt hanging over the head of a graduate is over twice that of their US counterparts.
